March 19, 1928 - September 24, 2013 Long time Pasadena resident Sylvie Levis peacefully passed away on September 24th holding the hand of her son and husband. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Monod, her mother Alice Westphal and brother Jean Monod. She is survived by her husband Robert Levis, sister Claire Van Brunt, two sons Alan Levis and Marc LevisFitzgerald and four grandchildren, Olivia, Julia, Robbie and John and many cousins in France. Sylvie was born in Strasbourg France and grew up with her family in Paris and met the love of her life Bob Levis during World War II. They were married on November 22nd, 1952 in Paris. They moved to Pasadena and have lived here for over 50 years. She served as President of the Alliance Francaise de Pasadena from 1965-1967 and from 1975-1977, during which time the Alliance grew and prospered, and she served on the board for over 30 years. She founded the Alliance Francaise French School which is now self-sustaining and has regular schedules and serves both adults and children at all levels of knowledge of French. Sylvie received a Commendation from the Mayor of Pasadena on May 23rd, 2008 for her dedication and commitment to furthering the enrichment and expansion of the French culture and language in Pasadena. There will be a celebration of life gathering at the family home in Pasadena and friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate her life at 5:30pm.
