Parks, Thelma Hazel
March 25, 1913 - January 15, 2011
Thelma Hazel (Lindore) Parks, originally from Brisbane, Australia, long-time resident of Santa Monica, CA, passed Jan. 15, 2011.

Married to an American bombardier during WWII, she came to America in 1945 on the "War Brides" SS Lurline. She became a leading business woman in the banking world, the Business & Professional Women's Organization, and Credit Women International.

Always the spirited Queenslander, she began a whole new work life as a concierge for the Huntley Hotel and a Travel Counselor at Santa Monica Convention and Visitor's Bureau where, for 23 years, she greeted visitors from around the world~up to the day she left us. Thelma enjoyed her time at the Palisades Park Visitor Kiosk and then moving onto the main Visitor Center in the later years, greeting tour buses and walk-ups alike with her treasure trove of tourist information and sharing her contagious love of people and Santa Monica. Simultaneously, she was the resident manager of a twenty-unit apartment building.

She is survived by her daughter and a loving extended US/AU family. And her beloved SM Visitor Bureau, tourism industry and other Santa Monica friends who miss her dearly. She was predeceased by husband, Harold, in 2001. Thelma was 97 years young.
