William DRUMMOND Obituary

DRUMMOND, William Henry Peter May 10, 1917-Nov. 25, 2010 William Henry Peter Drummond, "Pete" passed through this life to join our God on Thanksgiving day, at age 93. Born in Calgary, Canada, Peter was raised in the Seattle area where he attended the University of Washington, a straight "A" student in aeronautical engineering, he received a full scholarship to Cal Tech, where he received a Master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering and graduated with honors. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Fullerton, and together they forged their life in Southern California, working for Douglas Aircraft Co., which became McDonnell Douglas, which became Boeing. He settled in the Mar Vista area and worked in the Santa Monica plant adjacent to Santa Monica airport, then headed the missile and space program in Culver City and opened their new facilities in Huntington Beach. Late in his career he headed a new group investigating solar energy as an alternative energy source for commercial production. He moved to Encino so his two boys could be closer to Harvard School, then to Dover Shores in Newport Beach for over 30 years before moving to Boise to be with his son and his family for the past four years. He was active in his boys activities, including serving on the PTA for their grade school, as a leader in the Cub and Boy Scouts as well as following their athletic endeavors. An adamant believer in physical conditioning, Pete jogged two miles and swam one mile every day starting in the early 1960's until his knees gave out. He was an avid scuba diver, back packer, and camper. He enjoyed being with family and when not working many a camping trip were enjoyed in Yosemite, Sequoia, Catalina Island, Lake Mead, his beloved Puget Sound and later, after retiring at 63, "off trail" cross country backpacking in the Sierras and Bitterroot Mountain range of Idaho. He also served as president of the Dover Shores Homeowners Association, the citizens committee advising the County of Orange on the expansion of John Wayne Airport as well as an active member of the Presbyterian church. Peter is preceded in death by his brother, Pat, and survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty, sons Peter Stephen (Nancy) of Boise, ID, granddaughter Casey, and David Arthur of Manhattan Beach, CA and grandson Kevin. He will be missed by all of those that were fortunate enough to know him. His request to be cremated will be honored, there are no services scheduled. In lieu of flowers please donate to Alzheimer's Association in his honor.
