Charles W. "Chuck Cabot" Cascales

CASCALES, Charles W. "Chuck Cabot" (92), of Santa Monica died December 27th. In the music world, Mr. Cascales was known as Big Band leader Chuck Cabot whose orchestra played to capacity crowds in the 1940's and 1950's in ballrooms such as Roseland in New York, the Palladium in Hollywood and the Catalina Island Casino. He was also a member of the legendary UCLA 1939 football team along with Jackie Robinson, Kenny Washington, and Woody Strode and, in the early 1940's, athletic coach at El Monte, Jefferson, and Hamilton High Schools. Beginning in the 1960's until shortly before his death, Mr. Cascales booked performances for the Coasters, the Drifters, and the Shirelles. He also organized the Rolling Stones' first West Coast concert tour. In addition, Mr. Cascales was president of the Hollywood-Los Angeles Navy League Council for five years and a gold cup member of The Vikings Charities. Mr. Cascales is survived by his companion of 26 years, Mrs. Edna Ralston of Santa Monica, daughter Judy Cascales of Chula Vista, son Charles William Cascales, Jr. of Milwaukie, Oregon, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City.
