Arrangements entrusted to Burket-Truby Funeral Home Cremation & Alternative Services, Inc., Oakmont. Alice Mae was an avid reader and was well-known for her stories of an interesting family and life in Ottumwa, Iowa; Chicago and Lake Forest, Illinois; and Hollywood, California. She was a proud graduate of Ottumwa High School class of 1944 and student at Ferry Hall in Lake Forest. She and her friends loved to visit Chicago for cocktails and sundaes at the Palmer Hotel, dances with U.S. servicemen, and jazz concerts in clubs. At the end of her life, Alice Mae was fond of saying: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body. Rather, skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up and totally worn out, and screaming, 'Woo hoo, what a ride'."
