September 2, 1929 - August 11, 2014 Wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Lonnie Whittle, 85, passed away peacefully at home in Los Angeles, CA. He was the youngest of 13 children, born to Willis and Daisy Whittle of Fresno, CA. He is survived by his adoring wife of 63 years, Lorraine, four children, son Craig and daughter-in-law Beverly, daughter Regina, daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Keith Anderson and daughter Holly. He leaves behind ten grandchildren, Sean and wife Ilda, Leah and husband Roy Holsheimer, Haley, Maile, Quentin, Casey, Rani, Alyssa, Jay and Brandon and four great- grandchildren, Sady, Andrew, Ezra and Josiah; also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War assigned to the ship USS Valley Forge and played the saxophone as a member of the U.S. Navy Band. He was one of the first black men to graduate from the Navy School of Music in Washington D.C. Lonnie had a love for music and had the opportunity to sit in sessions with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and many of the greats. He worked for Douglas Aircraft for several years then began a career as a Computer Engineer for the Computer Machinery Corporation, now known as the "Apple" Corporation. Lonnie was a kind, generous and honorable man who will be missed dearly by his beloved family members and close friends. Memorial Service and Visitation: August 18th at Holy Cross Chapel, Culver City, CA. Interment: August 20th at Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, CA
