Gollin, Sheldon
October 14, 1929 - April 17, 2010
Sheldon Gollin, born on October 14, 1929 in New York City, passed away at home on April 17, 2010 surrounded by his family. He had fought a courageous multi-decade battle with cancer. Shel was a champion long distance runner at LAHS and attended both UCLA and Loyola Marymount University. He became a successful businessman as the owner of Empire Sewing Machine Corporation. Shel's love of gardening led him to pursue the ancient art of bonsai and later to develop a passion for orchids. Shel also became a much-loved volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. He loved to travel and was also an avid patron of the theater arts in Los Angeles. Shel is survived by his beloved family: Barbara, his wife of 55 years and his daughters (and sons-in-law), Julie Gollin (Eric Blau), Jaime Vane (Chris) and Kim Brooks (Jim). He also had 6 adoring grandchildren: Kevin, Lauren, Kyle, Jessie, Haley and Jennifer. We all love and miss him very much. Services will be held Wednesday, April 21 at 11:00 at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Tower Cancer Research Foundation, 9229 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90210.
