FRIEDMAN, Stuart Stanley Jan. 15, 1924- Dec. 18, 2011 A long-time resident of Southern California, Stuart Stanley Friedman passed away peacefully at his home in Indio, CA on December 18. Born in New York City, Stuart served his country as a member of the Coast Guard and was a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine practicing both in North Carolina as well as California. Known by his friends and family as the "gentle doctor," Stuart is survived by his beloved wife Sonia and their two children, Rob and Rick as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His third son, Alan, preceded him in death. During World War II Stuart served as a member of the United States Coast Guard and worked with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) in delivering livestock to war-torn Europe. After the war, Stuart set up a veterinary practice in Fuquay Springs, North Carolina where he helped families and their animals big and small over a 14 year period. He then moved his family and practice west to California where he practiced until the age of 72. A private memorial service for Stuart is being held in Los Angeles.
