Long time Pacific Palisades resident Sarah Cluster passed away on September 5th after a hard fought battle with ovarian cancer.
Sarah was born in St. Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles to Marie and Al Cluster and she moved from Van Nuys to Pacific Palisades with her family, including brothers Tom and Lou, in 1962. Sarah attended Valerio Elementary School, Marquez Elementary School, Paul Revere Junior High and Palisades High School. Pretty, energetic and outgoing, Sarah was a very popular member of her class. She participated in Girl Scouts and many other extracurricular activities including ballet and jazz dance. From a young age, Sarah was interested in nature, ecology, surfing, health and fitness and these remained important to her throughout her life.
As a young adult, Sarah traveled to Hawaii, then worked at UCLA as a member of the clerical administrative staff. She actively pursued the practice of yoga, studying directly with world-renowned practitioner and teacher Bikram Choudhury. She also worked as a trainer, and ultimately became a highly respected licensed massage therapist, working for more than 18 years with a large private clientele including many celebrities and other health practitioners. She lived in the Palisades virtually all of her adult life.
Sarah had a broad range of interests and causes including Heal the Bay and the Surfrider Foundation. She was an avid hiker in the local mountains and enjoyed sharing that experience with others. She was devoted to her friends and maintained many friendships going back to elementary school. A truly one-of-a-kind person who touched the life of all she came in contact with, Sarah was known for feisty intelligence, her inner and outer beauty, her loyalty and strength of character. Sarah never gave up in anything - her unique personality and passionate outlook on life made her a true original.
Sarah is survived by her brothers Tom of Lincoln, California (husband Randy) and Lou of Reno (wife Minna).
A memorial and celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 2 pm at Temescal Gateway Park (Presbyterian Conference Grounds) in Pacific Palisades. All are welcome. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
