Margaret PARKINSON Obituary

PARKINSON, Margaret Mary (Pegi) April 22, 1931-Sept. 27, 2012 Born in Willow City, North Dakota, Pegi moved with her parents, Margaret and Elwood Parkinson, and her brothers, Joe and Dan, to Los Angeles in the late 1930s. By 1946 the family was settled in their new La Canada home. A graduate of Mount St. Mary's College in Westwood, with a degree in English, Pegi was an active member of "The Mount's" alumnae association. In the 1960s she opened her store "The Clothes Peg" on Lido Isle in Newport Beach to great success. In later years, Pegi traveled throughout the world. She especially loved her many trips to Baja, California and Europe. Pegi also enjoyed her membership in Los Angeles Yacht Club. As a loyal volunteer at Huntington Hospital, Pegi earned her 1,000 hour badge, which she wore with great pride on her Friday rounds. For many years, she was also a faithful volunteer for Boys' Club of America and St. John of God Hospital.
She was a parishioner at St. Bede Catholic Church in La Canada, where she once taught third grade. Pegi leaves behind a large following of family and friends, who will always miss her company. Her surviving family includes her aunt Zeola Fuerhelm, her brother Daniel Parkinson (Margie), and many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with her loving companion Phil Donatelli, with whom she spent many happy days and hours. Pegi and I got back a long way from 1949 and 50's. We shared some great times at the house around the pool. I have some photos of her and her brother and me together. Also on a trip to Palm Springs 1951. Another at a dance in Holy Family Hi 1949, Dan you may or may not remember me. If you want photos let me know. I now live in Australia. Vale(Farewell) Pegi. Pegi, It's hard to believe you won't be coming to Girls' Night or walking into Gaby's patio. It won't be the same without your big smile and wit. We'll miss you no end. Love, Margaret Mary IV
