Maurice Weiner Obituary

Weiner, Maurice
August 18, 1930 - September 30, 2012
Maury Weiner was a great progressive - a devoted advocate for racial justice, gender equity, and the rights of working women and men. Maury served as Deputy Mayor to Mayor Tom Bradley. Beyond his service to the City, he was a leader in nonprofit philanthropy, serving as Administrator for Tarzana Treatment Centers, and held leadership positions in many highly respected organizations. Services for Maury Weiner will be held at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068 on Sunday, October 4, 2012 at 4:00 PM. Maury is survived by his brother Herbert Weiner, his sister Elaine Reynoso and his nephew Dean. Rather than flowers, Maury's family has recommended donations to causes close to his heart, The Tom Bradley Legacy Foundation and/or Amnesty International. Said L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, "There are tens of thousands of people whose rights were protected by Maury's efforts as a top city official, a nonprofit leader and as an active citizen."

I loved working with Maury for the past 25 years. He was direct, yet funny and pleasant. My condolences. A wonderful man.
