Fred Berry
Aug. 2, 1921 - Jan. 4, 2013
Fred Berry, of Westwood, died Jan. 4, after a brief illness. He was 91. Fred received a Purple Heart in World War II. He served in Headquarters Company, 41st Tank Battalion 11th Armored Division. After the war, he moved with his family from New York to Los Angeles, where he started a successful retail business and later invested in real estate. Fred loved baseball, reading, the theater, and cooking. He was a kind, loving father, and a gentle man, who was always ready to help anyone, anytime, anywhere. He loved tinkering around his home and puttering with his cats, Moonpie and Annie. But his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He was married for 21 years to Mary Berry. Fred is survived by his five children: Brian, Neil, Thomas, Kate and Maureen; two grandchildren, Jack and Sophia; two sisters, Marilyn Siegal Chaton and Shirley Moonitz; and longtime friend Connie Buchner.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Westwood on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m.
