Doris Chin Tom was born in Mobile, Alabama on May 4, 1928 to Tom and Rose Chin, the fourth of five children. She moved to Los Angeles to attend USC, earning her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Chemistry. She worked as a chemist in Chicago, then in Berkeley at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and then Pasadena with the US Navy. Doris married Baldwin Tom in 1957. She raised two sons, Michael and Ronald. She began teaching chemistry at John Marshall High School in 1972. She served as Chair of the Science Department and retired in 1993. After retirement Doris spent much of her time with family, friends and travel. She became grandmother to Michael in 1992 and Anna in 2002. She traveled extensively both domestically and abroad. She was predeceased by her husband Baldwin Tom, her father Tom Chin, mother Rose Chin, and brother Robert Chin. Doris is survived by her sons Michael Tom and Ronald Tom, daughter-in-laws Linda Tom and Lorrie Tom, grandson Michael Tom and granddaughter Anna Tom. She is also survived by her brother Jack Chin, sisters Rose Marie Lowe and Betty Ho, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services are at Forest Lawn, Glendale on Friday February 8 at 2:30 pm.
