GOULD, Dorothy 89, youngest child of Max and Sarah Stein. Born in Chicago in 1923, she grew up in Ventura. The youngest sister of eight siblings in her large and blended family, Dorothy was extremely close with her brothers and sisters and with their children and grandchildren. Married Joseph "Joe" Gould (1920-2005) in Los Angeles in October 1947. As a young woman, Dorothy attended Ventura Community College. After graduation, she worked as a legal secretary for the District Attorney of Ventura. The bulk of her life's work was dedicated to the host of charitable organizations which she served with passion and fervor: March of Dimes, United Way, PTA, the Conference of Christians and Jews, UCLA board of affiliates, just to name a few. During the early 1960's, Dorothy was also extremely active in the local Silver Lake/Los Feliz community and politics. Dorothy was especially involved in the Jewish community, serving as a past President of the Beverly Hills chapter of Hadassah, Board Member of the Julia Ann Singer Center, and Board Member and former Sisterhood President of Temple Israel of Hollywood. Dorothy and Joe also generously opened their home to many foreign exchange students for more than 20 years.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Joe. She is survived by her children Marc Gould (the late Cyndi Goldman) and David Gould (Deborah Chankin). Dorothy is survived also by her grandchildren Sarah Chankin-Gould (Yonah Schmeidler), D'ror Chankin-Gould (David Berger), and Yona Chankin-Gould, and by her great-grandson, Matan Joseph Berger-Gould. The funeral will be at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks and Mortuaries- (800) 600-0076, Los Angeles on Friday at 11 am. Contributions in her memory should be sent to the Beverly Hills chapter of Hadassah and United Way.
