Obituary Condolences

Lenke, Dr. Michael Lowe
October 31, 1938 - March 1, 2013
Dr. Michael Lowe Lenke died in peace on March 1, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving wife and devoted family in his final days. He passed away after a short, courageous struggle with cancer. He will be cherished and dearly missed by all who survive him - his wife of 36 years, Dr. Eleanor Novick; his children, Rabbi Michele Lenke and Jody Skoutas and stepchildren, Jeffrey Novick, Karen Kahn and Ari Novick; his grandchildren, Emily, Zack, Zoey, Sophia, Sammy, Noah, Josh and Jessie; and his sisters, Kat Kroll and Moon Kerson. Michael will be remembered for his spontaneity, fun and endless energy as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was born on October 31, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY. He moved to Fairhaven, VT as a teenager where he played varsity basketball and won the 1955 State Championship. He returned to Fairhaven regularly for reunions and retained a large circle of friends. Michael moved to Los Angeles in 1956 to attend UCLA. He was recruited as a young graduate by General Motors where he quickly rose through the design and engineering ranks. He left engineering at age 35 to become a psychologist, earning Masters Degrees from USC and Immaculate Heart College and a Ph.D. from Fielding University. He practiced as a marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles for the last 35 years where he was loved and respected by his patients as a kind and insightful therapist. He retained his connection to UCLA by becoming a major contributor and has held season tickets since the 1960s to UCLA Bruins men's basketball. Most importantly, Michael made a difference in the world with his wisdom, honesty and character. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Stanford Hospital Cancer Center where he was treated with care and respect by Dr. James S. Kahn, his son-in-law, and Dr. Pamela L. Kunz (C/O Dr. Kunz, Division of Oncology, Phyllis Bussey, 269 Campus Drive, CCSR 1115, Stanford, CA 94305 and note the gift is in memory of Dr. Michael Lenke).
His funeral will be held on March 3, 2013 in the Bay Area at the Home of Peace, Congregation Beth Sholom Cemetery located at 1299 El Camino Real, Colma, CA. Shiva will be observed at the home of Karen and James Kahn immediately following the funeral.
