John G. Vanderwier, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, dog-lover, and fishing mentor to many, passed away on Memorial Day 2013.
Growing up in Muskegon, Michigan, he attended Michigan State University, graduating with a degree in Engineering in 1954. Soon thereafter, making the big move to southern California with his small family, John began his 35 year career as a design engineer in the aerospace industry and earned a Master of Engineering degree from UCLA.
He was husband to Audrey; father to Julie, Peter, John, David, and Mark; and grandfather to Emma, Jake, and Michelene. John was an avid fisherman and shared his love of the natural world with his children and grandchildren. He is missed by his family and friends.
A memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 22, 2013, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 15950 Chatsworth Street, Granada Hills, CA, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Trout Unlimited, Attn: Anderson Smith, 1300 N. 17th Street, Suite 550, Arlington, VA 22209.
