Charles Campbell Obituary
Charles Lincoln Campbell passed away June 21st at his residence in the Hollywood Hills. Best known to his friends as Chuck, he was born in Detroit Michigan, but moved West with his family in the 1940's. He attended Hollywood Professional School and Los Angeles City College. Chuck started his professional career as a messenger at Warner Brothers Studios.
He was a very respected Supervising Sound Editor with a long stellar career. He won three Academy Awards for his superior work on "E.T.The Extra-Terrestrial" - "Back To The Future" - and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Chuck also received 9 additional nominations. He was a member of SAG, AFTRA and served on The Board of Governors of AMPAS. He enjoyed voice over work and was delighted to be actively working in his later years.
A world traveler, with a voracious appetite for learning and a zest for life. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry. His poetry is published which adds author to his many accomplishments. Chuck was a mentor to many young man and woman just starting in the business. He always had time for everyone and was the perfect gentleman, with a twinkle in his eye and a martini in is heart.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His commitment to family, friends and life can be summed up as follows. "Never take life for granted"--"Carpe Diem" (seize the day). Go gently into the night, sweet prince.
He is survived by his nephew, Don Campbell and niece Laura C. Bishop. His wife, Maxine Valentino Campbell, preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to MPFTFUND,ORG OR P.O.Box 51160 LA, CA. 90051-1977.

Chuck graciously entertained me and my guest at his last Editors Guild retirees luncheon. I had immense respect for his work. On the "Swing Shift" dubbing stage, he urged me to get Fayard Nicholas's autograph on the outside arch of my silver tap shoe, delighting both me and Fayard. That opened the door to my current position of Assistant Director of the Central Coast Follies. Thanks for your support and encouragement, Chuck.
P.S. I was born in Detroit, too. Miss you, sir!

You were a gentleman and a poet, a wonderful man to work with, an inspiration to those of us who love the film industry. Your sense of humor, integrity and work ethic lifted up our spirits and made us all want to work even harder to make great films. Thank you for leading by example.

It was a privilege knowing and working with Chuck. He was an artist and a gentleman and a great friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Chuck, I was just 16 when I met you and you were just 26. You carried me across the Pilgrimage Theatre stage. And we worked together in sound...you as an actor, me as an ADR editor. I loved you then, I love you now. You are a great and wonderful man. RIP dear one.
