October 18, 1937 - October 4, 2013 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2013. She is survived by her loving husband Stanley of 57 years, her son Jack and girlfriend Ashley Hodges, daughter Jill Black Zalben and boyfriend Marvin Caesar, and daughter Janis Black Warner and husband Douglas Warner; her grandchildren Brittany Black, Zach and Torie Zalben and Jason, Jenny and Joey Goldman and Jake Warner; former son-in-law and daughter-in-law Norman Zalben and Joanie Black; sister-in-law Lyn Levine, brother-in-law Howard Black, nieces and nephews Keri Ligerman, Stevie Handelman, Laurie Black, Jeff Black, Rob, Rick and Mike Levine and cousins Sara and Harvey Applebaum. Joyce lived a full and wonderful life. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 18, 1937 to Jacob, M.D. and Frieda Gottlieb. She attended school at Beverly Vista, John Burroughs Junior High, Fairfax High and UCLA. One of her most outstanding qualities was her clever and witty sense of humor. She was never at a loss for her perfect one-liners. Joyce was a gracious hostess and, along with Stanley, opened their home to many friends from around the world. Joyce was involved with numerous charitable organizations. Among those she cared deeply about were Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, American Diabetes Association, City of Hope, Stop Cancer, Vista Del Mar, Beverly Hills Hadassah, Israel Bonds, the Jewish Federation, the L.A. Jewish Home, the L.A. Opera, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, the Beverly Hills Police Foundation and the Temple of the Arts. Services will be held at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any of the following charities: Vista del Mar, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, LA ORT, Beit T'Shuvah, City of Hope and the LA Jewish Home for the Aging.
