February 23, 1924 - October 25, 2013 Dearly loved father and friend, Sam's life expanded and enriched everyone he touched. He attended the Pratt Institute in New York, then taught at UCLA's Art Department until his retirement. Sam continued teaching and painting until the end of his life. A prodigious reader and thinker, he understood the worlds of art and poetry, eastern religions and politics. Predeceased by his wife Mary and his brother Solomon, he is survived and sorely missed by his brother Isaac, his children Steven, Sarah, William and Mary Jane (Chris Clarke), and by his friends. Sam's work may be viewed at www.samamato.com and donations may be made in his name to the
or to any organization of your choice.
