September 28, 1926 - January 13, 2014 Dr. Edward Kenneth Kaufman, 87, passed away Monday, January 13, 2014, at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. Ed attended U.C.L.A. (Masters in English), then U.S.C. (PhD, History of Theater). He taught in the U.S.C. Cinema School, for 20+ years. Ed was also the theater critic for the LA Herald Examiner and The Hollywood Reporter. Ed loved to travel, leading him to launch Critic's Choice International, a once a year winter tour of London theater. On a sunny day, Ed was frequently seen riding his bike along the Santa Monica beach bike path. Most of all, Ed loved his family and friends, calling many every morning "just to say hi." Ed is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Bernice Bratter; daughters, Cece Kaufman-Himelstein and Melinda Wade Cross; step-sons Adam Bratter and Joseph Bratter; and six grandchildren Nathaniel, Jake, Constance, Tatum, Mathew and Willa. A memorial service will be held at Leo Baeck Temple, 1300 No. Sepulveda Blvd., on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 2:00pm.
