Dolores Childers Obituary

February 11, 1921 - August 19, 2014 At eighteen (1939) Dolores began her career as a tap dancer in Chicago. Then at nineteen she moved to New York City to follow her passion to be a professional stage dancer. After touring the United States and playing many theaters she returned to New York City, joined the wardrobe union and became a costume dresser. With her attention to detail and her personality she quickly moved up to the position of wardrobe supervisor. In this career Dee worked on the following major productions: "MAME" / Angela Lansbury, "Pal Joey" / Lena Horne, "Annie Get your Gun" / Debbie Reynolds, " On a clear Day" / Robert Goulet, and "A Taste of Honey" / Billy Dee Williams. Dee moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1968 and began working with Edwin Lester, the founder of the L.A. Civic Light Opera. She then worked as wardrobe supervisor at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Her last stage show in New York was "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' with Debbie Boone. When that show closed in 1982 she returned to her home in Los Angeles. From 1984 through 1996 she worked in television as Angela Lansbury's personal dresser on "Murder She Wrote." Dee is survived by Sister Donna (William) Prendergast, Sunland CA. her nephew Joseph Kieraldo and his wife Nancy, Madison, Wisconsin, four grandnieces and three grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen Childers, sisters Elizabeth (Len) Angoli, Alina (Lee) Drake, brothers John Kieraldo and Kasmir (Jack Crandall) Kieraldo, and nephew Dr. John Kieraldo.
