Marvin KLOTZ Obituary

February 6, 1930 - November 2, 2014

I dreamt I was slowing
And the reaper,
You know, the grim one,
Was gaining...

So begins a recent poem by Marvin Klotz: English professor, coeditor of "Literature: The Human Experience," tax preparer, and bard of the Venice Beach paddle tennis courts where his perch became "The Wisdom Bench." Marvin's life began in Queens and blossomed in Los Angeles. He taught at California State University, Northridge for 33 years.

He is survived by his wife Joan, son David, son Daniel Kael, stepson Rick Bartholomew, Rick's wife Marie, and by many friends and former students who mourn his passing.

Marvin's poetry and the rich thunder of his voice live on at marvinklotz.com. The website's dedication, written by Marvin's sons three years ago, pays tribute at length. Marvin knew how much we all loved him.

I just googled Marvin Klotz after sharing with my husband a recollection about him. He was an amazing and memorable professor whose passion for learning was shared and lives on (he was my professor 39 years ago).

Hey Big Marv!

As I was one of Rick's friends, you were definitely one of the coolest Dads around. One of the only ones to actually come down into our underground fort where you taught me how to say "psuedo" without sounding like some kind of leather!

A great man has left the earth a better place!!!
although i knew Marvin for only 5 years-
we shared a childhood in sunnyside queens, an education that started at
P.S 125 --and we both graduated Stuyvesant HS ---although not at the same time. My daily visits to the Wisdom Bench has made a great change in my life. I miss you Marvin!!!!

I share the wisdom bench. i share the experience. This fleeting life we all share has been made greater by Our Big Brother , The ignoble cannot comprehend the wisdom He achieved . A Universal desire for the betterment of Mankind
