Alfred Nilsson Obituary

June 20, 1917 - January 23, 2015 Alfred L. Nilsson born in Brooklyn, NY to parents who emigrated from Scandinavia. As a pre-teen he spent several years at sea. Enlisting in the US Navy in 1936, he served 4 years. Subsequently he joined the US Army and was appointed to Officer Candidate School. After active duty, he remained in the Army Reserve until 1979 retiring as a Major. He is survived by daughters Cheryl Ray and Patricia Price, close family friend Clinta Dayton Farber, three grandsons, two great grandchildren, also close friends Steve and Cindy Selznick and Richie Brown. Married 35 years to Virginia Walker, she passed away in 1997. Employed by Pacific Bell and AT&T as a communications engineer, he retired after 43 years of service. He lived in Van Nuys in the same house for 50 years. Al was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed repairing electronics, clocks and was deft at tying sailor knots. He loved sailing, swimming, crossword and Sudoko puzzles. He looked forward to spending evenings in his neighbor's spa and drinking a cocktail.
