Sol Kravetz Obituary

December 27, 1924 - June 8, 2017 On June 8, 2017, Sol Kravetz passed away at age 92. Born in Brighton Beach, NY, to Louis and Ana Tau Kravetz, Mr. Kravetz lived in Los Angeles from 1938 through his death, including 51 years in Studio City. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School and UCLA, where he earned both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Education. His college education was interrupted for several years by his Army service in World War II, where he served in the European Theater as a communications specialist, including time on the staff of General Mark W. Clark. Knowledgeable in teletype, Mr. Kravetz was manning the teletype at Chateaubriand, France, when the message was received of victory in Europe. Mr. Kravetz's professional career was dedicated to elementary education. He spent his entire 35-year career in the Los Angeles Unified School District, as a teacher, Vice Principal, and Principal, serving over the years at Brentwood Elementary, Carthay Center, Erwin Street, Vintage, and Telfair Avenue. He spent many years as a religious educator at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, and he remembered fondly his time as a counselor at Camp Max Strauss. Mr. Kravetz was an avid photographer, a lover of both folk and classical music, and enjoyed learning how to fix almost anything. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joan Rudd Kravetz, and is survived by his daughters, Lauren Kravetz (Henry Dehlinger) and Harriet Diament (David Bouzaglou); grandsons Austin Diament and Tyler Diament; brother Nathan Kravetz; niece Deborah Kravetz, and nephew Daniel Kravetz. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, 4pm at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Memorial donations may be made to Skirball Hospice.

Absolutely my favorite teacher.
6th Grade, Brentwood Elementary, 1954-1955

Earlier this week, I came across my first-grade composite photo from Erwin Street Elementary School and took notice of Mr. Kravetz, which gave me incentive to look him up online today and discover his recent passing.

My deepest sympathies to you and Mr. Kravetz's extended family and friends. Although I was a little boy during his tenure at Erwin, I recall him as a kind man and a strong principal. His dedication to helping children grow into well-rounded men and women should never be forgotten.

God bless him and his memory. A life well lived.

Regards,
Chris Weber, 48
