MATTHEWS — Mrs. Annie Baker Evans, age 90 of Matthews, formerly of Maxton passed away on Feb. 03, 2015.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park. The Rev. Legrande Taylor will officiate the services.

Annie was born March 29, 1924 in Horry County, South Carolina, daughter of the late Manuel Craven Baker and Nellie Tyler Baker. She was the loving wife to James Evans, who preceded her in death in 2003. She retired from Abbott Laboratories after many years of service. She was a longtime member of the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church where she enjoyed singing with the choir. She loved working in her yard and garden, solving puzzles and traveling to the beach.

She was also preceded in death by sisters Dora Baker, Mae Polston and Eulon Martin, who raised Annie after the death of their parents, and brother, James Baker.

Mrs. Evans is survived by her children, son, James "Butch" Evans and wife Jean of Matthews; daughter, Patricia Evans McKenzie of Charlotte; grandchildren, Todd McDougald, Tiffany Waters and Denise Caudle; five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service on Friday at the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.
