LAURINBURG — Mr. Charles Everett Locklear, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 8, 2015 after a sudden illness.

A celebration of Charles' life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Good News Chapel in Laurinburg officiated by Bro. Charles Oxendine. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Charles was born in Scotland County, a son of the late Wade Hampton and Nettie Locklear. He was a former studio engineer who loved music. Charles was a good Christian man, and a faithful member of Good News Chapel. He served as a volunteer for many years at Scotland Memorial Hospital. He loved tinkering with old clocks.

Charles loved gardening and he especially enjoyed hanging around with his buddies at Quality Produce. Most of all, Charles loved being with his family.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a brother, David Allister Locklear.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Merriel Locklear of their home in Laurinburg, son Charles "Chuck" Locklear, Jr. (Angela) of Laurinburg, daughters Cynthia Locklear of the home and Amy Locklear of Laurinburg, sisters Annie J. Allen of Laurinburg, Alene Smith (Chick) of Orangeburg, South Carolina, granddaughter Garrett Nicole Locklear of Charlotte, and a host of other extended family and friends.

Visitation will take place from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday at Good News Chapel.

Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Charles' honor to Good News Chapel, 10580 Stewartsville Cemetery Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
