LAURINBURG — Charles William Hill, 69, of Laurinburg passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017.

Charles was born at home in Scotland County on June 19, 1948 the only son to the late Ervin Russell Hill and Lizzie Stubbs Hill. He spent his early childhood growing up in Johns Station and then moving with his family to the city in Laurinburg. Charles was an intelligent young man who attended East Carolina University, University of North Carolina Pembroke and earned his associates degree from Richmond County College. He then continued in a career of construction engineering.

Charles loved God and was devoted to his church and the members at Central United Methodist Church where he served as a church deacon. He had a heart of gold and always willing to help others, especially doing yard work. His good sense of humor truly showed when going through the misery of cancer. His many hobbies include billiards, playing bridge and doing yard work for others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie Harrison Hill and Minnie Atkins Hill, William Stubbs and Mary Ella Davis Stubbs.

Charles leaves behind his only sister, Phyllis Hill Clark of Laurinburg; nieces, Cheryl Locklear and Julie Rene' Gardner; nephews, Aaron Michael Brown, Christian Riley Dunn; aunts, June Hill Peele (Bruce), Betty Hill Causey and his many cousins and loving friends.

The family wishes to thank all the friends, neighbors and church family who helped Charles throughout his life, especially during the last years. He was ready to be with the Lord.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Pastor Bobby Dean. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A private interment will be at a later date.
