Dorothy Bridgman Mangum

LAURINBURG — Dorothy Bridgman Mangum, 86, passed away at her home on June 26, 2016.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 30,at the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg with burial following in Hillside Cemetery.

Dorothy was a daughter of the late Marvin and Kay Gaston Bridgman born February 6, 1930 in Danville, Virginia. She was the loving and devoted wife to the late James Patterson Mangum. She graduated with the class of 1948 from Laurinburg High School where she studied voice and often performed for school events. She worked in the medical field for many years with Dr. Hugh McArn, Dr. Mark Huckeriede and retired as the office manager for Dr. Harry Summerlin. After retiring, she worked in the child day care business.

She served as a member of the First Baptist Church since 1946 being baptized by Dr. Norfleet Gardner. She was one of the founding members of the Ruth Sunday School Class and Mission Friends Teacher for Children. She also served as a longtime member of W.M.U. Dorothy will be cherished and remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol M. Norfleet and a sister, Geraldine Jackson.

Surviving are her children, son, James "Jimmy" Mangum of the home in Laurinburg and daughter, Brooksie Singleton (Jerel) of Dillon, SC; son-in-law, George Norfleet of Laurinburg; brother, Bobby Ray Bridgman (Betty) of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Hardee (Lee), foster granddaughter, Amy Clewis and great-great grandchild, Ayden Hardee.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the First Baptist Church.

The family requests that memorial donations be given in her memory to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 883, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or Humane Society of Scotland County, 1401 West Blvd, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
