LAURINBURG — Doug Maag, 61, finished his course in faith on Nov. 10, 2014.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Laurinburg Christian Church with visitation being from 5-7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sharon Rice Maag; their son, Gib Peele, III and wife, Annie of Laurinburg; their daughters, Nikki Garman and husband, Rich of Uniontown, Ohio and Megan Maag and her companion, Troy of Raeford; his brother, Jeff Maag and wife, Sandy of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a special sister-in-law and caretaker, Cathy Cantwell of McColl, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Conner Peele, Kenley Peele, Jack Garman, Reece Garman, Kaylee Maag-Smith, Jaylee Fulmer, and Jayjeet Fulmer.

Doug was born in Barberton, Ohio on April 1, 1953, a son of the late Kenneth E. and Jeanette Skiles Maag. At the age of 20 he moved to Miami, FL where he served as a machinist for Rolls-Royce before moving to Laurinburg where he served as a machinist with Rostra for many years. His hobby of visiting yard sales and collecting antiques led him to establish an eBay business on the Internet during which time he also worked part time with Lowe's in Laurinburg. He also ran "Treasure Hunters of the Carolinas", a thrift/collectible store in Laurinburg.

A talented musician, Doug played guitar with a band in his early years and enjoyed accompanying his nephew, Jimmy Cantwell — a fiddle player, in recent years. He also loved to cook — especially his favorite foods from Ohio: sauerkraut and pork, chili beans, and Barberton fried chicken.

An active member of Laurinburg Christian Church, Doug served as an elder and in numerous other capacities.

Memorials are requested for Laurinburg Christian Church, 1111 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
