LAURINBURG — Edwin Paul "Eddie" Gibson, 81, entered into rest on March 21, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the First Baptist Church in McColl, South Carolina. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the First Baptist Church sanctuary.

Born Aug. 15, 1934 in Bennettsville, Eddie was the son of the late Paul and Caroline Hubbard Gibson. He served in the United States Marine Corps for three years and was a systems analyst with West Point Stevens for 37 years.

Eddie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family. He also was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in McColl where he served as Deacon and various other offices in church.

In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his granddaughter Lyndsie Gibson Melvin.

Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 54 ½ years Mary Turner Gibson of the home, daughters Kristy Melvin (David) of New Bern and Kathy Locklear (Richard) of Laurinburg, sons Paul Keith Gibson of McColl and Michael Gibson of Laurinburg, sister Carol Anne Hunter (Jerry) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, grandchildren Ashley Gibson (Ryan), Kristen Melvin, Mary Kendall Bender (Kevin), Taylor Gibson, Joshua Gibson, and Kristoffer Gibson, and great-grandchildren Ty Gibson and Garrett Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Eddie's honor to: First Baptist Church 220 North Main Street, McColl, SC 29570; or Scotland Regional Hospice PO Box 1033 Laurinburg, NC 28353.
