LAUREL HILL — Ellafair Leviner Norton, age 87 of Laurel Hill went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ and Savior on Oct. 30, 2014.

Mrs. Norton was born May 20, 1927 in Scotland County to the late Harrison and Elvie Mae Leviner. Forever she will be remembered as a faithful Christian, loyal homemaker, loving mother, devoted grandmother, tender great-grandmother, caring sister and aunt, and treasured friend. She obtained her education in Scotland County and then married Roy Norton of Laurel Hill. After the loss of her husband in 1969, with enormous strength and devout courage being a single mom dotingly raised their seven children. She retired from the Eaton Corporation of Laurinburg in 1992.

She is remembered for her faithful and active membership in Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church all her life until her decline in health. She had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, choir leader and the women's ministry president. Without hesitation, she assisted in any area of need, for example, she had a treasured talent for quilting by hand and she helped to create memorable quilts that were desired by many in the community as well as dependably assisted with her church's annual ingathering and preparing savory meals as the need arose. Her family and friends will forever remember her loving and nurturing contribution to their lives and families especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Norton, sisters, Lena Mae Leviner, Maggie Parham, Frances McClellan, Lula Mae Hatcher, Sadie Leviner Grooms and brothers, Billy Leviner, Neal Leviner, Edmond Leviner, Roland Leviner and Paul Leviner.

She is survived by her sons, daughters and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother. They all love, respect and admire her greatly for the faithful, loving, courageous, compassionate, dedicated and unselfish life she lived. Her seven children are Leroy Norton and wife Maxine of Laurel Hill, Donald Norton and wife Mary of Laurinburg, Bill Norton and wife Ann, Mitchell Norton and wife Linda, Doris Sessoms and husband Tommy, Betty McPherson and husband Butch; Wiley Norton and wife Brenda all of Laurel Hill.

Her fourteen grandchildren are Phillip Norton, Adam Sessoms, Kelly McPherson Russell, Shawn Norton and Scott Norton all of Laurel Hill, Mary Norton Quick, Leslie Norton Gibson and Kevin Norton all of Laurinburg, Brandon McPherson and Steven Norton of Raleigh, Frank Norton of Rocky Mount, Crystal Norton Hawks of Ellerbe, Ashleigh Norton Locklear of Gibson, Amy Sessoms McMillan of Virginia. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, Gunner Russell, Gavin Sessoms, Cayleigh Sessoms, Bridget Norton all of Laurel Hill, Chandler and Casie Gibson, Camdyn Norton, Ella Kate Quick, and McKenzi Norton all of Laurinburg, Tucker Norton and Lilah Norton of Sanford, Brileigh and Caslyn Locklear of Gibson, Graham and Abigail McMillan of Virginia and "Baby" Hawks of Ellerbe and one surviving brother, Harrison "Junior" Leviner, Jr., of Kernersville.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church, 12581 Sneadtown Road, Laurel Hill, NC 28351 or to the Edwin Morgan Center, 517 Peden Street, Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by Rev. Jerry Goins. Burial will follow in the Livingston / R&E Norton Family Cemetery in Laurel Hill.
