HAMPTON, Va. — Emma Revels Gibson, of Hampton, Virginia, daughter of the late John and Eloise Revels, was born Jan. 18, 1943 in Laurinburg. She was a 1961 graduate of I. Ellis Johnson High School and attended Fayetteville State University. In 1962, she met and married Howard Gibson Jr. and to this union three children were born. She loved to sew. Emma attended Rock Church of God, where she was a faithful member.

On May 19, 2015, Emma peacefully slipped away from this world. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eloise Revels; her husband of 23 years Howard Gibson Jr.; two brothers, John W. Revels Jr. and Ray Lynn Revels, and a nephew, Antonio Ingram Sr.

Services were held on May 27. She was laid to rest at Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia.

Emma leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Valerie (Teddy) Taylor; two sons, Howard R. Gibson and Scott Gibson; four grandchildren, Anthony Gibson, Dishon and Ebony Taylor and Maya Gibson and one great-granddaughter, Jaden Taylor, all of Hampton, Virginia. Also surviving are four sisters, Mildred (Jerry) Ingram, Elizabeth Revels, Margie Breeden and Linda Jones and a sister-in-law, Zarah Revels, all of Laurinburg; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
