LAUREL HILL — George Walter Brown Jr., age 74 of Laurel Hill, passed away July 21, 2015 at his residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will held 2 p.m. Friday at the Richard Boles Funeral Services Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet. Rev. J.W. Williams will officiate the services.

George was born on Oct. 3, 1940 in Columbus County, a son of the late George Walter Brown Sr. and Rosa Idella Brown. He was a proud United States Marine that served his country in Vietnam. He retired from the water treatment department at WestPoint Stevens after many years of service. George was a man that always put his family first and took care of everybody. He also enjoyed learning his family history. George loved to ride and enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Buford Brown.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Phillips Brown of the home; a son, George Brown (Jennifer) of Laurel Hill; a daughter, Patricia McIntyre of Laurel Hill; a sister, Mary Frences Brown of Laurel Hill; grandchildren Alice Ann Porath, John McIntyre, Noah Player, and George L. Brown; a niece, Rosa Oxendine, of Laurinburg; great-grandchildren Donnavon, Kaylan and Nathon; a great nephew, Danny Tyler Oxendine; a great niece, Marissa Oxendine, and a host of extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Richard Boles Funeral Services Chapel.
