LAURINBURG — Hattie Valentine Gulledge Strickland, 76, of Laurinburg passed away to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016.

Valentine was born February 14, 1940, daughter of the late Franklin "Bud" Gulledge and Clarice Hancock Gulledge. She was one of the first 50 employees hired with the Campbell Soup Company and worked as an operator until her retirement of 27 years.

She served as longtime member of the East Laurinburg Baptist Church where she loved singing, making the Knots for Love blankets and being involved with Missions. Val was a delightful lady who loved sharing her smile with everyone. She was a loving and devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, sister and devoted friend that will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Strickland, a grandson, Justin Scott Callahan and sister, Sylvia Hurst.

Val is survived by her husband, Olin Raffaldt of their home in Spartanburg, SC; her children, Danny Alfred Strickland (Judy) of Marston, Franklin "Frankie" Eugene Strickland of California, Charlie E. Osteen, III (Wanda) of Laurinburg, Valerie "Kay" Bowyer (Chuck) of Laurinburg, Michael E. Osteen (Allyson) of Pulaski, VA, Virginia S. Callahan of Laurinburg, Clark S. Strickland (Billie Ann) of Laurinburg; step children, Olin "Lin" Raffaldt (Renee), Taska Moody (James) and Johnny Raffaldt all of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, Ronnie Gulledge (Vicky) of Pageland, SC, sisters, Judy Sullivan (Donnie) of Pageland, SC, Betty Kistenmocker (Glenn) of Washington; her nineteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Richard Tyson. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
