Henry Merritt Bardel

PINEHURST — Henry "Hank" Merritt Bardel, 69, passed away at his home on Aug. 5, 2015.

Born in Scotland County on Aug. 21, 1945, he was the son of the late Emil Christmas Bardel and Hazel Knight Bardel.

A memorial service will be held at the Chapel in the Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with Pastor Rich Culp officiating.

Hank served for eight years in the United States Air Force, which included tours in Vietnam. Mr. Bardel had worked for L.O.F. Glass in Laurinburg and later worked as a consultant for the Marshall Institute of Technology.

Hank loved life and people, especially his family. Using his wit and humor, he told the best stories and never left out a detail. Mr. Bardel was an avid golfer and loved NASCAR.

Mr. Bardel was the husband of Marianne Benton Bardel. He was the father of Christi Bardel Thompson and her husband Scott of Moore, South Carolina., Jeffrey Scott Bardel of Wellford, South Carolina, Ashley Sasseen Bland and her husband Ronald of Sunset Beach, Lara Sasseen Ellis and her husband Jeff of Pinehurst, and Julianne Sasseen Clodfelter and her husband Brian of Seven Lakes. He was the proud and loving grandfather of Taylor, Maggie and Luke Thompson, Ethan and Aden Ellis and Rhett, Mason, and Libby "DiddleDumplin" Clodfelter. He was also survived by his aunt Lucille Knight of Pinehurst.

He was preceded in death by his sister Caroline Love and his brother Bob Bardel.
