LAURINBURG — Mr. James Bernard Croke, 85, passed away on Nov. 17, 2015 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Charity Outreach Holiness Church officiated by the Rev. Jerry Oxendine and the Rev. Ed Cline. Entombment with military honors will follow at Laurinburg Memorial Park.

Mr. Croke was born on July 9, 1930 in Richmond County, son of the late William and Lila Mae Gibson Croke. He earned an accounting degree at the King Business College. He was a Korean War veteran who proudly served with the United States Navy. He worked as a truck driver, retiring from Sears after 27 years of dedicated service and was awarded the Million Miles No Accident Award.

He faithfully served the Lord and was a long time member of Charity Outreach Holiness Church. He loved to read, watch classic western movies and fellowship with his family and friends. Bernie was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend who will truly be missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Joyce Croke Norton and brother George Croke.

Mr. Croke is survived by his wife of 59 years Clara Gibson Croke of their home, sons the Rev. James Thomas Croke and wife Ellen and David Allen Croke and wife Alyce of Laurinburg, sister Esther Dorsett of Wilmington, three grandchildren: Melinda Croke Gainey, Jennifer Croke Bass, and Allen Kendall Croke, seven great-grandchildren: Abigail Croke, Hailen Croke, Jeremiah Morton, Arial Bass, Emalee Bass, Carter Bass and Hunter Gainey.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Charity Outreach Holiness Church on Bostic Road in Laurinburg.
