MT. GILEAD — Linda Gail McGirt Carter, age 57 of Mt. Gilead, formerly of Laurinburg passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Multitudes Church, officiated by Rev. Opie Swails. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Gail was born February 18, 1957 in Scotland County, daughter of the late James Wilton McGirt and Tessie Sanderson McGirt. She worked as a Deputy Clerk with the Scotland County Clerk of Court retiring after many years of service. She served as a member of Multitudes Church and Twin Harbor Ministries. She loved walking on the beach, enjoying God's creations be it on the water or in the woods. She enjoyed dancing and loved to shop. Gail was a proud recipient of The Order of the Longleaf Pine award. Above all, she was devoted to the Lord and her family, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend that will truly be missed.

She was also predeceased by her brother, James "Buddy" McGirt and a special aunt, Mamie Hyatt.

Gail is survived by her husband, Robbie Carter of the home; sons, B.P. Simms (Starr Locklear) and Nick Carter both of Laurinburg; daughters, Heather Simms, Terri Michelle Knight and Leslie Carter all of Laurinburg; sisters, Sue Hart of Indiana, Ruthie Age and husband LeRoy of Florida; eleven grandchildren and her lifelong friend Kay Fields.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at Multitudes Church.

The family request that memorial donations be made in Gail's memory to Hospice of Scotland County, P. O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
