FAISON — Margaret Cannon Daughtry, 97, long time resident of Faison, died early Wednesday morning, June 24, at Haymount Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville.

Born Jan. 6, 1918 in Grifton to the late Joe and Zadie Cox Cannon, it was on April 10, 1937 that she married Winnie Clifton Daughtry, who passed away Nov. 9, 1992 at age 80, following 55 years of a good, solid marriage.

Mrs. Daughtry is survived by three loving and devoted sons and their wives, Cecil Owens Daughtry and Martha Best Daughtry of Laurinburg, Ronnie Clifton Daughtry and Frances Mizell Daughtry of Tarboro, and Tommy Wade Daughtry, Sr. and Kaye Goins Daughtry of Fayetteville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Paul Owens Daughtry and wife, Joy Hardman Daughtry, Susan Daughtry Crass and husband, Scott Crass, Katherine Rose Daughtry, Angie Leigh Daughtry Lewis and husband, John Marvin Lewis, Janice Arlen Daughtry Gray and husband, David Edward Gray, Sarah Marie Daughtry Stewart and husband, Ian Stewart, Tommy Wade "T.J." Daughtry, Jr. and wife, Anna Warren Daughtry; 10 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Melba C. Parker of Albertson, Mary Frances C. Swaney of Michigan, Rita C. Best of Goldsboro, Martha C. Butts of Greenville, and Mable C. Higgins of Spring Lake.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred C. Midgett and Myrtle C. Joyner, and two brothers, Orris Cannon and McDonald Cannon.

Mrs. Daughtry had been a member of Faison Baptist Church for 65 years, during which time her church service included being a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, leader of the Royal Ambassadors, serving in the Women's Missionary Union, and in many other capacities.

The last seven years of her life were spent living in Fayetteville in various retirement home settings, lastly being the Haymount Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to be nearer to her family.

The life of this dear Christian lady will be celebrated in a service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Andy Beard and the Rev. Paul Rose. Burial will follow the service in Wayne Memorial Park near Goldsboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the service, beginning at 1 p.m.
