Michael Edward Durkin

LAURINBURG — Michael Edward "Mike" Durkin, 61, passed away on Jan. 6, 2016.

Michael was born on April 1, 1954 in West Palm Beach, Florida, son of Joanne Herrod Parker and the late Edward Eugene Durkin. He was an educator with the Scotland County School System retiring after 25 years of dedicated service and then worked as an explosive technician for K-2 Solutions. Mike led an exciting and fulfilled life, he taught karate for 40 years and held a six degree black belt in Martial Arts, published books on building bird houses, and was an actor in the movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II.

He also enjoyed fishing but his greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family, especially with his only son, Scott.

Mike is survived by his wife Caroline Durkin of the home, his son Scott Durkin and wife Heather of West End, mother Joanne Parker of Laurinburg, brother Larry Parker of Henderson, sisters Vicki King of Laurinburg and Jodi Harding of Gibson and a host of special nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private interment will be at a later date.

The family requests memorials to be made in Mike's memory to the Humane Society, 1401 West Blvd, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
