MAXTON — Myrtle Eveline Smiling Jacobs, age 70 of Maxton passed away on April 4, 2015.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Union Light Baptist Church with burial following in the Epps-Smiling Family Cemetery.

Myrtle was born Oct. 24, 1944 in Robeson County, a daughter of the late Willie E. and Ida Epps Smiling. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery in Maxton and then worked as a nursing assistant where she loved caring for others. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister that truly loved sharing time together. She served as a longtime faithful member of the Union Light Baptist Church. Myrtle enjoyed sewing, canning, traveling, photography and loved being outside working in her garden and yard.

In addition to her parents, Myrtle was also preceded in death by her brothers, Solomon Smiling, Joseph Smiling, Thomas Smiling, Timothy Smiling, Donnie Smiling, Albertas Smiling, Howard Smiling and C.W. Smiling.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 50 years, the Rev. Joe Jacobs, Jr., of their home in Maxton; son, Joseph Jacobs and wife Carmita of Maxton; daughters, Tammie Webster and husband Jarvie "Dobie" of Laurinburg, Pamela Locklear and husband Von of Maxton; brothers, Willie A. Smiling of Conway, South Carolina and Samuel Smiling of Merritt Island, Florida; her sisters, Ruth Scott, Stella Scott and Margaret Locklear all of Maxton; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the Union Light Baptist Church in Maxton.
