LAURINBURG — Phoebe Byrnes "Penny" Richardson, 93, passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2014.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Laurinburg.
Penny was born in Worcester, Mass. on Aug. 4, 1920. She graduated from nursing school at Temple University in Philadelphia where she met her husband, Dr. James Justus Richardson. Dr. and Mrs. Richardson moved to Laurinburg in the early 1940s. The Richardsons were very involved in the community and Mrs. Richardson served on many committees over the years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees there as well as singing in the church choir.
"Penny" is survived by her grandchildren Jay Todd, Suzanne Burton, Audren Ford, Lee Richardson, and Phoebe Bye, her daughter-in-law Sylvia Richardson, her sister Carolyn Salem, and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. James Justus Richardson, her sons Jim and David Richardson, her daughter Phoebe Fitzner, and her grandson Chase Fitzner.
Penny's infectious laugh, love of life, and positivity will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. on Friday at Scotia Village.
