MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Roderick Dowd "Rick" Howell, II, husband of Leslie Cannon Howell passed away on Aug. 1, 2014 in Key West, Fla. while celebrating their wedding anniversary.

Mr. Howell was born in Laurinburg, and grew up in Andrews, S.C. as a son of Anna Smith "Big Momma" Howell and the late Roderick Dowd Howell. He was a member of Sweet Water Branch Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and usher. He was employed by UPS for 30 years where he was loyal to his customers and committed to delivery and service.

Mr. Howell was a graduate of Andrews Academy and Anderson College. He was also an avid Clemson Tiger fan and IPTAY member. He loved and cherished his mother, family, and especially his "W".

Surviving in addition to his wife of Myrtle Beach, and his mother of Andrews, S.C. are three sons: Jesse William Sawyer, Cannon Pate Howell, and Gibson Smith Howell all of Myrtle Beach, his daughter Olivia Ann Howell of Myrtle Beach, his brother Richard Clark "Rabb" Howell of Georgetown, S.C., three sisters: Sheila Howell Pender and husband Mark, Janette Howell Hyrowski and husband Mike of Georgetown, S.C., and Debbie Howell of Laurinburg, two sisters-in-law: Leisa Cannon Turner and husband Brad of Pawleys Island, S.C. and Angie Howell Gaskins and husband Jimmy of Georgetown, S.C., mother-in-law Bonnie Smith Cannon, and father-in-law T. Lester Cannon and wife Rachel. He also treasured many cousins, aunts, uncles, five nieces, and a nephew.

Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents Fred C. and Myrtle Gibson Howell and R. Glenn and Ora Gibson Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Sweet Water Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Cliff Mixon officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Sweet Water Branch Baptist Church.
