LAUREL HILL — Servando S. Ruiz, 76, passed away on Jan. 18, 2016.

A Christian Mass Burial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the St. James Catholic Church of Hamlet. Burial will follow with military honors in Hillside Memorial Park, Laurinburg.

Servando was born in Fresno, California on Sept.1, 1936, son of the late Servando and Micaela Martinez Ruiz. He was a proud United States Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne during the Cuban Crisis. He was a hard working, talented machinist and Co-owner of R & D Machine, Inc.d in Bennettsville, South Carolina. He was a longtime cyclist and enjoyed tinkering with classic cars.

Servando is survived by his wife Vera Leviner Ruiz of their home in Laurel Hill, sons Steve Allen Ruiz of El Paso, Texas and Eric Glen Ruiz of Fayetteville, brother Jose Luis Ruiz of Aguascalientes, Mexico, grandchildren Marissa Ruiz, Samantha Ruiz, and Geoffrey Chapman, and great-grandchildren Triston, Giulianna, and Keira Chapman and Jaylen and Kaylen Locklear.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service on Monday at St. James Catholic Church.
