MAXTON — Sonja Williford Yarborough, age 75 of Maxton passed away on July 28, 2014.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Maxton officiated by Rev. Carl Redding. Burial will follow the service at 4:30 p.m. in the Lee Chapel Church / Williford Family Cemetery in Dunn.

Sonja was born November 17, 1938 in Benson, the loving daughter of the late Jamie Lee Williford and Ruby Godwin Williford Smith. She served many years as the administrative assistant for the First Baptist Church of Maxton. She was active with all church events and loved her time as a Sunday School teacher. She was a former member of the Maxton Women's Club. Sonja enjoyed playing golf, cooking and truly loved fishing. She was a devoted wife, sister, and friend that will truly be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Williford and sisters, Andrea Lou Jenson and Joy Miller.

Sonja is survived by her husband of 52 years, William "Bill" Yarborough of their home in Maxton; brothers, Donnie "Don" Williford and wife Mary of Clayton, Jerry Williford and wife Kathy of Jacksonville, FL; her nephews, Ryan Williford, Colton Williford, Edward Williford and a host of special family and friends.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 107 N. Florence Street, Maxton, NC.

Flowers are welcome, however, the family wishes for gifts to be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church.
