LAURINBURG — Stefanie Rita Wolfsgruber met American serviceman Charles Eddy Fitzgerald in 1962 when he was stationed in Germany. Their love led to marriage and eventually their coming to America, her for the first time.

Throughout Charles' extended military career, his injury in Vietnam, and their life at military bases across the south, she proved to be a supportive and loving wife, strongly family oriented, and her strong convictions surfaced in defense of her husband and other life issues over the years. Life was precious to Rita.

In March 2015, she and Charles moved to Scotia Village from Fayetteville where shortly afterward she was diagnosed with cancer. She finished her course in faith on Aug. 31, 2015.

A memorial service for Mrs. Fitzgerald will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Scotia Village.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brothers Peter Wolfsgruber and Helmut Wolfsgruber of Austria and her sisters Gertraud Wolfsgruber and Julian Wolfsgruber of Austria.

McDougald Funeral Home and crematorium is serving the family.
