Winniford Simmons

LAURINBURG — Winniford Alwood Simmons, Jr., 58, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 at FirstHealth of the Carolinas Moore Regional Hospital.

Born January 13, 1960 in Scotland County he was a son of the late Winniford Alwood and Sarah Katherine Huggins Simmons. He was president of Simmons Lumber Company Do-It-Center and was also a disc jockey and independent insurance agent for a number of years. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Winniford was a huge fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and was a Ham Radio Operator. He enjoyed history (especially local history), traveling and cooking.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carol Hayes Simmons of the home; two sons, Winniford Alwood Simmons, III (Rachel) and Frazier Prosser Simmons both of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Rebecca Katharine Simmons and Sarah Elizabeth Simmons of the home; and one sister, Kathy Simmons Collier (Michael) of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18 at First Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Wike and Rev. Dr. Drag Kimery. Burial will be private.
