GIBSON — Eugene "Gene" Caviness, 74, passed away on April 6, 2014.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Gibson Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Greg Icard. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Eugene was born on Sept. 4, 1939 a son to the late William Hinton Caviness and Josie Wright Caviness. He retired from Abbott Laboratories after 31 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime faithful member of the Gibson Baptist Church, serving as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, NASCAR, and riding and caring for his horses. He loved farming, riding his tractor, and traveling, especially to the beach. Gene was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who truly cherished sharing his time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sue Caviness of their home in Gibson, sons Ronnie Caviness of Cosby, Tenn. and Michael Caviness and wife Sissy of Gibson, brother William Thomas "Tommy" Caviness of Franklin, sister Linda C. Peele and husband Allen of Laurinburg, four grandchildren: Catherine Nicole Caviness, Chrystal Coffe, Christian Eric Caviness, and Matthew Allen Caviness, and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
