LAUREL HILL — Walter Gamewell Smith, Sr., 77, passed away at his home on Aug. 17, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Sneads Grove United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Lamar Smith and the Rev. Gordon Caughill. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Walter was born on Feb. 14, 1937 in Edgefield County, S.C., son of the late Samuel Luther Smith and Ruth Berry Smith. He proudly served his country in the N.C.National Guard. He was an auto mechanic, worked formerly with McLaurin-McArthur, and was the owner and operator of The Auto Transmission Hospital. He served as a longtime faithful member of the Sneads Grove United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed field trialing Beagles, gardening, farming and going to sporting events with his family.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Doris C. Smith of their home, sons Walter G. "Randy" Smith, Jr. (Ronica) of Braselton, Ga. and Brian Clark Smith of the home, brothers Samuel L. Smith, Jr. (Harriett) of Wagener, S.C. and Clyde Smith (Anne) of Johnston, S.C., sisters Martha S. McGee of Beech Island, S.C. and Betty Ruth Fulbright of Johnston, S.C., his grandson Rylan Smith, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
