ROBB, John Daniel
John Daniel Robb, 51, passed away in his sleep unexpectedly on Thursday, November 22nd, in Pasadena.
Born on December 8, 1960 in San Francisco, John spent his early years in Phoenix, where he graduated from Camelback High School in 1979. John graduated from Wheaton College in 1983, earned a California Teaching Credential in 1985 and later completed a Master's in Computer Educational Technology at Cal State University Los Angeles.
John loved his work as an educator, serving thousands of students as a member of the San Gabriel High School faculty for 27 years. He was admired by colleagues and students alike as a skillful teacher, curriculum and program developer, and inspiring leader. John served as chair of the Business and Technology Department. He was a visionary, starting the first academy in the Alhambra School District. The San Gabriel High School Business and Technology Academy has inspired a generation of future business leaders.
John loved music and sports. He grew up in a house filled with singing, team sports and youth group activities. He participated in school and church choirs and continued to enjoy singing in church and community groups throughout his adulthood. John's musical tastes varied from attending baroque concerts at the Hollywood Bowl to listening to his collection of Earth, Wind & Fire recordings. As an athlete, he most enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball as well as coaching.
But more than anything, John loved his family and friends and they loved him. John's parents and siblings delighted in his joys and successes throughout the stages of his life. He created a family of close friends and colleagues with whom he shared his life in Pasadena. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, E. Clark Robb and is survived by his mother, Jeanne Magee Robb of Newberg, OR; sister, Becky and husband, Robert Hicks (Portland, OR); and three brothers: Phil and wife, Pam (Gilroy, CA); Paul and wife, Laura (Seattle, WA); and Peter and wife, Gen (Eugene, OR) as well as sixteen nieces and nephews. John was married to Maria Solatorio from 1998-2003 and they remained dear friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12th, 2:00 pm at All Saints Church (132 N. Euclid in Pasadena). A scholarship fund for San Gabriel High students has been established in John's honor. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the John Robb Memorial Scholarship and sent to Ana Camacho at All Saints Church.
