Coonen, Sylvia Freeman  
Sylvia Freeman Coonen Sylvia Freeman Coonen, born February 23rd 1917, slipped away peacefully on January 21, 2015, at age 97, due to complications from Parkinson's which she suffered with for 8 years. Born in California and raised in Long Beach. She was the middle daughter of Samuel and Sarah Freeman. She was gifted with a beautiful voice, playing piano and singing on the radio at a very young age. She graduated, class of 1934, from Long Beach, Polytechnic High School. She was well known and loved in the community. A past president of the National Council of Jewish Women, and receiver of the Hannah G. Solomon award, and active at Temple Israel where the family were founding members. She was happily married to Max Coonen in 1935 until his passing in 1991. Her surviving relatives are her brother, Lionel Freeman; son, Benjamin; daughter-in-law, Summer; grandchildren, Jenna, Steven, Dylan and Ryder. She was adored and admired by her family and friends for her kindness, good will, and great love of life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends! Libbrecht, Dalores  
Dalores Libbrecht 1920 - 2015 Round Rock - Dalores Libbrecht, a resident of Round Rock, TX, died Tuesday the 20th of January at the Court at Round Rock. Born Dalores Humrich in 1920 in Smith Center, KS, Dalores relocated to Southern California where she resided most of her life. She married in 1937 and gave birth to her daughter, Dorene, in 1938. She re-married to Gerard Libbrecht in 1941 and was blessed with 2 two step children, Bill and Geraldine. Dalores was very active in the Long Beach Woman's Club, Fairs and Squares Dance Company and had a 15 year career working for the Machinist Union as an Office Manager where she retired in 1985. She loved organizing events, shopping, sewing, dancing and playing pinochle with the same group of good friends for over 40 years. She loved being a mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and would go to the ends of the earth for her family. Dalores moved to Austin, TX in 2010 to be near daughter and family after a difficult knee surgery. She is survived by her children, Dorene Daubert and Bill Libbrecht, 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 15 great great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews as well. Meisel, Gerald  
Father Gerald Meisel, Pastor Emeritus After preparing for the priesthood at St. John's Seminary, Fr. Meisel was ordained in 1961 and served the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for 54 years. Fr. Meisel was assigned to St. Matthew Parish in 1981 as Associate Pastor and in 1984 was named Pastor. He formally retired in 2005 but still continued to minister within the parish celebrating liturgies and visiting the sick. He died on January 19, 2015. A vigil service will take place on Tuesday, January 27 from 6-8p.m. His funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 28th at 11:00a.m. Both services will take place at St. Matthew Church, 672 Temple Ave., Long Beach 90814. Sanders, Evelyn Marie  
Evelyn Marie Sanders 1916 - 2015 Evelyn Sanders, 98, a resident of Leisure World for over 20 years, passed on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Quaker Gardens. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Sanders; her sister-in-law, Roberta Salyer; her brother-in-law, George Sanders (Doris Sanders); her two nieces, Karen Sanders and Laurie Sanders; nephew John Sanders (Juanita Ladyman); her devoted caregiver Sue Smith; and her little grand dog Ginger. She is preceded in passing by her husband of 63 years, Owen Sanders and son, Dennis Owen Sanders. Evelyn was born in Rock Island, Illinois. She attended Augustana College and graduated from the Luthern Hospital School for Nurses in 1940. Upon graduation she enlisted in the WWII Army Nurse Corps. Evelyn was an active duty nurse in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and left the service in 1945 as a First Lieutenant. Evelyn met the love of her life, Owen Sanders, at a dance in Chicago. They married in 1948 and moved to California in 1953 where they raised their two children. Evelyn had a busy nursing career at Seaside Hospital, the Veterans Hospital of Long Beach, and Memorial Hospital of Long Beach. Evelyn spent her senior years with her husband in Leisure World California. She was a member of the Leisure World Baptist Church, the Nursing Club, the Scandinavian Club, and Women's Club. Her twilight years were spent at Quaker Gardens in Stanton enjoying the beautiful gardens and grounds. Evelyn will be remembered for her devotion to her husband, love for her children, and quiet love of life. Shelley, Lorraine  
Lorraine Shelley September 28, 1920 - January 19, 2015 On Monday January 19, 2015, the bright and energetic Lorraine Shelley left her loving earthly family for her eternal home at the age of 94. She lived almost all her life in Long Beach where she was born in 1920 to Allie and Walter Morrison. A graduate of Polytechnic High School and Pacific Bible College (later Azusa University), she married LeRoy Shelley (d. 2007) in 1941. Together they founded Christians in Action and made an impact on many lives around the world serving God and training missionaries. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Randall (Kathleen), Kimball (Marilyn) and Rebecca (Greg), who remember her with deep love as do her 6 grandchildren and 9 great grand children. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30th at 9:30 am in the Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel (San Antonio entrance), 1500 E. San Antonio Dr., Long Beach. Springer, Eugene Roy  
Eugene Roy Springer Eugene R. Springer, a sixty year resident of Palos Verdes Estates, passed away on January 20th, at the age of 95 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Lehigh University. In February of 1946 he started a 35 year career working for North American Rockwell as an Engineer. He met and married E. Ruth VanValkenburgh in December of 1950. They moved to PVE in July of 1955 with their two children Larry and Laura. Gene was very active in Little League, Boy Scouts and Indian Guides. He loved playing golf, horse racing, square dancing, reading and traveling with his wife. Gene is survived by his daughter, Laura Springer-Geesling (David); granddaughter, Angela Geesling. Preceded in death by his wife and son. His kind heart, genuine sense of humor and smiling face will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched.
